Barnes

Amazon Kindle eReader has led, at least in the U.S., eReader market since the introduction of a Kindle in 2007. Sony has declared 2nd place with 30-35% market share.

But there's a new kid on the block. In October '09 Barnes & Noble has announced its eReader corner that sold out in pre-order within a few weeks.

The corner is particularly revolutionary in their eyes. It will be difficult for your child half gadget / her to see one and do not develop an earnest desire. But does this mean that the corner is the best thing since the printing of bookish boys and girls?

Let's see and compare some of the features corner and the eReaders Kindle.

For the most part reading in the corner of E-Ink screen is very similar to reading on the screen of the Kindle eReader e-ink. Both eReaders use the same or similar readout.

What is dramatically different, and what actually attracts many people to the corner is the eReader small LCD touch screen electronic ink. In the Kindle, navigation is done via the keyboard driver and 5-way Chicklet. Controls to the corner are mostly accessed through use of the touch screen LCD.

The corner of the touch screen is also used to navigate books in your library or for the selection of books to buy from Barnes & Noble through the wireless connection. A virtual keyboard is available on the screen LCD for writing.

The color LCD screen looks very nice corner and it seems to be a very desirable feature, but there are problems with the implementation of software, we'll get in a bit.

Connectivity

The Kindle has an eReader 3G wireless through AT & T for the World Kindle, and Sprint for the Kindle 2. Amazon calls its wireless "Whispernet." Using Whispernet, usually can purchase and download a book in a minute or less. You can also use the browser a little awkward but functional for Internet access, check email, research on reading in the Wikipedia, even access to another online ebook store Amazon to buy and download books, etc. With World Kindle also have access to the Kindle store in many other countries besides U.S., although there is a charge for downloading a book about the Whispernet outside the U.S..

The eReader corner has both a WiFi and 3G AT & T wireless. The difference is that the corner connection can only be used to purchase and download books from Barnes & Noble. No Internet, no Wikipedia, can not be used to connect to another online ebook store and purchase books.

WiFi Corner is useful if you carry your eReader corner in a B & N store and download coupons and special offers for your eReader. You can also use WiFi to browse the ebooks while in a B & N store but can only read each book for a maximum of one hour over a period of 24 hours. These features in the store is not yet fully implemented as yet know what prove useful.

Sharing

One of the characteristics of the corner ereader received much press coverage is the ability provide their e-books to their friends. Unfortunately, this feature is not as great as previously thought. On the one hand, publishers must opt out books on loan. Some have said they will not allow it. There are also restrictions: You can only loan to a particular book once ever, and only for 14 days. While that a book is rendered not accessible to him in his own corner.

The Kindle does not currently allow this type of loan. However, you can share ebooks with up to 6 (varies by title) Kindles that are recorded in the same account. This works well for multi-families Kindle. It is even possible to establish a reading club with your Kindle have friends if you feel comfortable sharing a single credit card to register your Kindle for voters.

Other features

A feature Interestingly, the eReader corner has a user replaceable battery. Kindle battery is wired and therefore must be sent back to Amazon for replacement ($ 60). Amazon says that even after 500 charge (ten years or so) these batteries still have 80% charge, so this can not be a problem for most people.

The corner also accepts an SD card for additional storage. The Kindle has only internal memory, but that is enough to store about 1,500 books, so this may not be a problem for you.

A corner property that has not received any official Barnes & Noble is the recognition of the ability to borrow eBooks from the local library if they use the digital distribution service Overdrive. This requires installing Adobe Digital Editions on your computer and use it to sideload the ebook in his corner. You can borrow an electronic book from the library for 14 days, after which eliminates automatically. Can not renew ebook collection boxes. To determine the usefulness of this feature will be in your case, you should check your web site from your local library. Most libraries do not have a large catalog of electronic books yet. Kindle is not compatible with the collection of ebooks loans at this time

The eBook Store

No matter how attractive the hardware, the main purpose is to read eReader books. From eReaders today tend to be tied to proprietary DRM formats for existing titles, wants to ensure that the hardware you choose is backed by the best ebook shop (s).

Provider's corner e-book ebooks DRM'ed primary will obviously Barnes & Noble. You can also purchase electronic books online sellers DRM'ed other support Adobe Digital Editions. The corner is also compatible with non DRM'ed EPUB and PDF.

With Kindle you buy most if not all titles DRM'ed Shop Amazon Kindle. Kindle also uses a format for ebooks some other not so DRM'ed as MOBI and PDF. public domain ebooks are also available for the Kindle voter. I suspect that at some point Amazon will also have to allow for the Kindle support EPUB, due to increasing pressure for it.

Many people underestimate the Kindle being trapped in the electronic book store Amazon for DRM'ed ebooks. While this may be largely true, the fact is that the Kindle store has more titles available that B & N and all online stores selling books in electronic format together ADE. In most cases the Amazon prices are less as well, although Barnes & Noble has been trying to match their prices.

If you prefer to read books in the current bestseller lists is likely to be found for sale in most formats at similar prices. The more off the beaten path of your reading is, however, more likely you are to find what you're looking at the Kindle store.

EReader So Which is better – or nook Kindle?

If the corner eReader had not been brought to market to make the holiday 2009 season, and if Barnes & Noble had waited until the software was ready and resolved bugs, then I would say the corner would have been a very close second choice and perhaps equal to the Kindle.

In fact, the corner is currently hampered by faulty software version release and, unless B & N is fixed at the appropriate time will be the spot to advance to the next version of Kindle. Barnes & Noble has said they are working day and night to update the software and troubleshoot existing corner, and have been released in a couple of changes from this writing. But still There are a lot of mistakes and the corner is slower than the Kindle, which is to be a distraction when you are trying to plunge into that great book that comes. As it current LCD does not play well with electronic ink screen and can be very frustrating.

Moreover, I prefer the Kindle store. My reading tastes may be different than yours though, so I suggest you make a list of books you want to read and to compare prices and availability between the Kindle Store and B & N offerings. High prices can add up quickly ebook.

Kindle's ability to connect to the Internet and Wikipedia, etc. is also not be underestimated.

EReader I believe the corner has the potential to be a large and possibly eReader like the Kindle, but it is something of a gamble to buy one now and waiting to see Barnes & Noble if you can get all the bugs fixed in time and also party offerings Kindle Store.
